As subst. neut. a hard, difficult thing : pl. trí húais rátha ┐ aitiri ┐ nadma .i. dul fri dénam dúine ríg ┐ daurthaige ┐ choiri (.i. trí neithe as anfae [=ansa] nó as doiligh dhaibh), Triads 220 . atait tri os raithe .i. rath fri dui ┐ daurthach ┐ caire n-uma fo bith frichgnuma doibh, Bürgschaft p. 26 § 72 . 'too high' ( beyond capacity , cf. also uais no urgairt no egmacht, Laws iv 58.5 , where the transl. `poverty' seems doubtful.
