V Fo- enters into composition

(a) with vbs. as preverb, see Pedersen Vgl. Gr. ii 295 , Thurn. Hdb. § 829 , Sjoestedt-Jonval, Études Celt. iii 219 ff . In some Middle-Irish MSS it is wrongly substituted for other preverbs, see Ériu xiv 129 ff .

(b) with nouns and adjs. as prefix generally either with diminutive sense (with adj. = rather, somewhat , (e.g. fogel), q.v. or that of subordination. Sometimes defining position (e.g. fochóel, q.v.). Hence fo .i. bec nó derōil, O'Dav. 981 .
